Bias, drift, and audit trails in hiring and credit

In screening, ranking, and scoring systems, the risk is not only model bias on day one. It is drift in data and behaviour, silent changes in upstream features, and decisions made without a trail that shows what the organisation knew when it approved or rejected an outcome. Auditors and regulators will ask for the second thing as often as the first.

What "fairness" work looks like in operations

It is not a one-off model card. It is ongoing comparison of the signals you said matter, on the cadence you can defend: segment slices that align with your risk, thresholds that force review when a metric moves, and a written follow-up when you retrain, change data sources, or roll a new sub-model. Audit trail = the story, not a PDF archive

A useful audit trail answers: which version of the system was live; which policy threshold applied; who was notified; what you decided; what you changed in code, data, or process afterwards. The trail should be the same one your product and risk teams already use, not a parallel narrative assembled for an exam.
